The agreed Terms of Reference approved by both boards is to include but not necessarily limited to the following:

• Proposed Constitution and Membership Categories and recommended subscription rates.

• Governance Structure and Framework – Board and Sub-Committee Membership, Terms of Reference and Authority Levels, and board organisational and operational polices.

• Obtaining NSW Government approvals as required from the Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing.

• Legal implications of merging all recreational property assets into one title and the minimization of state stamp duty.

• Detailed assessment of the costs to successfully implement the merger and how this can be funded, including the possibility of grants to assist fund the merger costs.

• Detailed cost benefit analysis – review of past 2 years combined financial performance of the two clubs and a forward projection for 5 years based on realistically based assumptions of the likely outcomes of cost reductions and merger implementation costs.

• Branding and marketing recommendations for the new entity including name and website.

• Assessment of staffing requirements.

• Preparation of a submission to both boards with the Committee’s recommendations and if positive, the preparation of a joint information memorandum to the members of both clubs ahead of general meetings.

All members will be aware that the two clubs share many common resources and your boards understand that all clubs continue to face an uncertain future in light of reducing memberships. You can be assured that your directors clearly understand their legal and moral obligations to protect the interests of all members of both clubs in commencing this process.

Other members of the Committee are Geoff Boxsell, Mike Harris, Darryl Campbell, Warren Steel and Bob Anderson. As a team we are committed to ensuring that this investigation will be thorough and that all members of the two clubs will be provided with all the necessary information on which to base any future decisions.

We expect this process to take at least six months as there is a lot of work to be done. The Committee has the power to co-opt others with specialist skills to assist in this process. We are committed to transparency and the Committee will report back to the two boards monthly and update all members whenever this is appropriate.

Any final decision will be made by the members of both Clubs.

It’s good to see the course back to its full complement of permanent greens following the devastation caused by the Autumn floods. Thanks to our ground staff and all the volunteers who helped in this process. There is still some reclamation work on the 1^st and 18^th fairways on Hyams creek and a tree to be removed from Minnamurra River near the 12^th tee. The Southern Rivers Catchment Management Authority will be assisting us with this.

Handicap Changes:

Changes to the new handicapping system came into play during September which saw most losing handicap strokes. Good luck following the changes!

Recent Innovations:

Supershot: The addition of a “supershot” to weekly competitions is going well with some happy winners. The highest winning amount so far has been $190.

Monthly Draws: Monthly draws are providing regular golf shop vouchers to the winners. Two $100 vouchers are drawn each month

Golf Cart Draws: A weekly draw for a cart is conducted from members who participate in any competition during that week.

Birthday Balls: Anyone having a birthday since June should have received their birthday present of a golf ball. If not, get down to the shop and you will be rewarded. The birthday balls are available during the month of your birthday, but it is up to you to claim it at the golf shop.

Works in Progress:

You will have noticed clearing in the region of the 1^st tee garden area. This is in preparation for removal of trees with root systems causing problems, for replacement of leaking water pipes, construction of permanent pathways and relocation of our golf cart parking area.

Work is also to be done with drainage and permanent pathways between the 9^th and 10^th tees. The work to pathways will be partly financed by a State Government grant of $10,000 received under their Community Building Programme, with the work required to be completed by the end of this calendar year.  

Charity Days:

Our ladies have excelled again with great days organized for Breast Cancer in June and Camp Quality in September. Good weather and big fields led to pleasing results. Thanks to the enthusiastic greens staff for some lovely touches to the course, and to all those hard workers behind the scene. Amounts of $1,334 for Breast Cancer and $4,478 for Camp Quality were presented to the respective Foundations on the day.

Social:

Presentation Night: Keep the evening of Thursday 1^st December free for a good night to cheer on this year’s winners. Dinner and entertainment, with time to catch up, have a drink and a laugh. See you there!

Nine and Dine: Nine and dine has been quietly happening throughout the winter but will be getting ready for the summer starting on Thursday 13^th October. Be there for a 3.30 pm start; a great social occasion to be had. No bookings needed – just be there. It costs $20 for the fun.

Board Personnel Changes:

Previous Board members Phil Bowden and Marlene Trethowen did not nominate for re-election. Our thanks go to them for their contribution to the Club during their terms on the Board.

Elected in their place we welcome Lew Dare who returns to the Board after a break of some five years and new member Sue Paul.

The day was a big success with $4,478 raised forCampQualityand the 104 participants enjoying the Canadian Foursomes event, the sausage sizzle and afternoon tea.

The course is getting back to its best following the flood damage earlier in the year and the greens staff added the finishing touches by painting the Camp Quality logo on the approaches to the 5th, 8th, 16th and 18th greens (as pictured).

Thanks to the many generous sponsors prizes for both men and ladies went down to 10th placing with balls following.

With nearest the pins, a number of novelty events including longest and straightest drives, it was hard for participants to go home empty handed after having enjoyed a great days entertainment and  having contributed to what is a very worthy cause.

Jamberoo Ladies have built up a proud tradition of running this event for 18 years and once again did a sterling job in organising and administering the day.

Club president Lance Fredericks with 2011 Open winner Christian Wood

JAMBEROO Golf Club has bounced back from recent devastating flood damage to hold a highly successful 2011 Murray Tractors Jamberoo Open.

Club president Lance Fredericks was delighted to have attracted 72 golfers from 15 clubs to the rejuvenated course and to have so many visitors comment positively on the playing conditions.

“Since the distressing flood of March many, many club members have spent hours and hours in cleaning the mess which is now mostly gone,”Frederickssaid.

“When the warmer weather comes that recovery will be complete. We are very happy with the way it is coming on and many of the players mentioned they were very happy with the course. It is a tribute the efforts of our staff and to the many volunteers who have shown again what a great community this club has.”

Moss Vale golfer Christian Wood certainly found the course to his liking, shooting a four over par 71 on what was a soft course with little run to take the 2011 title.

“I was very happy to win,” the 35 year old scratch golfer said. “I hit the ball all right. I made a few mistakes but I steadied the ship and got over the line so I was happy.

Wood said he had been back playing and practicing golf regularly for five years and was just starting to travel to a few tournaments.

“A win under the belt will do,” Wood said. “It was a good little trip down the mountain. And a great pie shop. And a great tractor shop. We’re definitely going home to buy a tractor from Murray Tractors.”

Wood was joined by a number of fellow members and juniors from Moss Vale, and by visiting golfers from Cooma, St Georges Basin, Shoalhaven Heads, Port Kembla, Russell Vale, Kiama, Glenmore, Cabramatta, Queanbeyan,AntillPark, The Grange, Shellharbour Links, Nowra and Kareela.

Shellharbour Links member Gary Costa heard a loud “thwack” after playing his second shot from the trees on the 10th during the Open. Fortunately for him, this flood damaged stump probably saved his ball from going in the creek. Gary tried to claim it was an unplayable lie. They don’t have many trees at the Links.

JAMBEROO Ladies Golf Breast Cancer Day 2011 was held 12th July with 80 women playing to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Ladies from Kiama, The Grange, Bowral, Shoalhaven Heads, The Links Shellharbour and Glenmore Heritage Valley Golf Club played a 4BBB Stableford.

We were blessed to have a lovely sunny day after the windy weather. Everyone wore pink, and John Keeling our starter decorated the carts and posts with pink ribbons.

There were pink ribbons to buy to get out of trouble, and numerous prizes for the raffle.

John Duncan and greens staff decorated the course with a pink straight line on the 6th and John drew pink ribbons and pink ladies on the approaches to the 1st, 8th and 16th greens. A couple of years ago we purchased a set of pink flags, they were also placed on each hole.

The Presentation followed lunch in the Jamberoo Bowling Club. All the trophies and raffle prizes were donated by the women, and the new restaurant manager of the Bowling Club donated a voucher for the raffle. A few of our ladies were unable to attend and they generously donated money and prizes for the day.

The days event raised $1334 to go directly to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Betty Chittick said the event was initially organised five years ago to help raise awareness about breast cancer.

She estimated Jamberoo lady golfers have raised around $10,000 for the foundation since it began.
