Lightning Disrupts Comp

Many players decided to walk off the course today due to a bolt of lightning at about 10 am.

This was one of the correct options that players could take as it is their responsibility to decide if conditions were safe to continue.

By 1 pm the bad weather had cleared, the water on the greens had dissipated and the course was playable again but by this time, of course, most players had decided to go home. It is my opinion that these players should not be penalised on golflink and consequently I have requested that those players who withdrew due to lightning have their rounds withdrawn from the official records and not count towards their handicap. Unfortunately no refunds are possible this time.

As enough people completed their round the competition will stand and prizes and nearest the pins will be awarded.

For your information here is an excerpt from the 2018 Conditions of Play { http://jamberoogolf.com.au/notices-downloads/}

Precautions in case of lightning: the responsibility rests with the player to either stop play, after first marking your ball, and to then to seek shelter immediately or leave the course until you are satisfied that it is safe to resume play.”

  1. If only 20 percent of the field where able to complete their round as the course was unplayable a credit for those dedicated members surely would be justified.
