Golf Course Praised
With the current drought it is amazing how well our course has stood up to the arid conditions. Our fairways have fared much better than courses in the nearby vicinity which even have automatic watering systems on their courses.
Our greens continue to improve with many of the blemishes from previous years now almost completely repaired.
Course pathways have also been improved thanks to funding from our Ladies Committee.
Congratulations go to our hard-working and dedicated green staff.
Golf Clubhouse Renovations Planned
After a review the Board of Directors has decided to renovate the shop and office areas of the clubhouse. It is hoped to make the shop area lighter and give more space for our cramped office. With an ‘open plan’ arrangement the shop will eventually be connected to the Members Lounge.
Members will see some works in progress in the coming weeks as stage one is completed.
There should be minimal effects on golf shop and office operations.
Survey Report has Landed
Last year the club engaged a survey company to make an aerial cadastral survey of the course. Using new technology which included assessment instruments mounted on drones this survey has now been completed and gives us an accurate picture of the property to the nearest 2 mm. Precise levels and the ability to track water flow with accurate modelling are just some of the features of this survey and it will be put to use as we clear some dams and rearrange some water channels to ensure we catch water in floods and place it in our dams rather than spread it over the course causing loss of playing days.
The Latest Results
With plenty of run on the course and excellent smooth running greens the scoring has been fantastic. It has been quite a while for a member to shoot a nett score in the 50’s but last Saturday Dave Billett fired a nett 57 to win the C grade medal easily. Jake Henderson also shot a great 60 nett to win the D grade medal. Pete Francis continued his impressive recent form to take out A grade and Bruce Byers enjoyed his week back in B grade to win the B grade medal. The Monthly Best Putter Award was also very close with John Anthony winning on a countback from 3 others with 26 putts. He now has a chance to play for the Golden Putter Trophy in November.
On Tuesday Rhonda McKinley again displayed her much improved game to win the Ladies C grade medal while the consistently good Lyn Beringer was our A grade medalists. Sue Paul also had a good game winning the B grade medal.
The word after Monday’s veteran round was, “Welcome to A grade Terry”.
Terry Murphy fired 41 points to win from Bob Neilson and Greg Seymour. Glyn Godfrey again played well on a Monday to score 41 points also to win B Division from Jim Robb and Theo Schmieder.
Lee Hayward also extended his excellent recent form winning the Drummond Golf Voucher on Wednesday. The Kingsford Nine was won this week by William Perry with 22 points.
Our hearts and souls go out for those affected by the recent bushfires in the districts south of Jamberoo. We pray that all will soon be safe and well.
