 B Pennant Report

By Adrian Bell

The B pennant team defeated Gerringong 3.5 to 1.5 at St Georges Basin. The win ensured a place for the team in the semi-finals at Port Kembla this weekend. The B team will play Kiama and a win will book a place in the final at Wollongong.

 Results:

Adrian Bell  loss 5/6

Paul Hazeltine win 4/3

Matt Bell win 2/1

Tom Persson win 4/3

Pete Munro all square

The team went into the match knowing that a win or possibly a half would be needed to gain a place in the semis. The guys showed a lot of Jamberoo grit to perform under pressure and out play the Gerringong side. Pete Munro came back from 2 down with 3 holes to play to gain a half by birdieing the last hole. Tom Persson played some of his best golf this season to easily overcome his long hitting opponent. Matt Bell found himself 2 down after 4 holes as his opponent parred the first 4 holes. Matt kept to his game plan of keeping the ball in play by hitting a 4 iron off the tee on many of the tight tree lined holes. This strategy paid off for him as his opponent strayed into the trees at crucial times allowing Matt to come out on top at the end. Paul Hazeltine continued his good form and chalked up another easy win.

The B team have played as a cohesive unit all season and are now focused on gaining a place in the final. The side have an 8.20 tee off at Port Kembla and anyone wanting come and support the team will be very welcome.

C Pennant Report

Round 5 Report by Chris Leckey

Jamberoo 1.5 V Links Shell Cove 3.5 @ Links Shell Cove

Can we go one better than 2009!!

The Jamberoo C Pennant team has finished on top of their division and will play the 2nd placed team in division 2 next weekend @ The Grange.

This year’s team of Anthony Smith, Tom Zimmermann, Tim Young, Arthur Bosanquet, Boyd Sylvester, Wayne Grifiths, Peter Francis (vc) and Chris Leckey (c) have combined well to give the team a tremendous chance of finally taking a C Pennant. Normally finishing 1st would put us into the final as was the case in our only final appearance back in 2009, but this year we need to win the semi final to get an opportunity.

I have to say how proud I am with all the boys for the way they have performed on the course and how committed they are as a team to win this pennant. Having 8 players with only 5 spots means there are weeks when players miss out having a game, but that’s the thing with this team, the boys all turn up and caddy and enjoy the game for the day’s players.

The history of the Cs  over the last 10 years with  Athol Casey and David Ransom as Captains and the memory of Terry Spicer and with Tony McRae not being well has given us extra drive to go well this year.

This week results:

Anthony Smith  2up

Tom Zimmermann 2/3

Tim Young 4/6

Chris Leckey All Square

Wayne Griffiths 1/2

Shellharbour Links was at it’s most difficult today with a fresh southerly buster seemingly opposing our drives on most holes.

We needed a win to guarantee 1st place in the division and our no.1 Anthony Smith came through with a well earned result. Anthony was 4 up early but their 12 marker came back to square. Smithy’s enviable driving with that draw working was a pleasure to watch and he was cheered on by us all on the 18th to win 2up.

With carts being the best way to get around this course our boys were very appreciative that our team caddies were there to push the buggies on this long and testing course. Thanks Pete, Boyd ,Bob and C’s Legend Tony.

Well you could say we have scored a try, so let’s hope we can kick the goal in the coming 2 weeks .

Go the Superoos!

White Horse Cup

Report by David Ransom

The White Horse Cup squad had the bye and hosted the other clubs in our division at Jamberoo.

Breakfast of bacon and egg rolls and coffee was greatly appreciated by the visiting teams as were the drinks at the end of the round. Thanks to Chris Goodwin, Steve Jackson, Shane Townsend and Steve Rippon for their culinary skills and general help on the day.

The visiting teams all commented to me on the quality of our fairways and greens and the team would like to thank John Duncan and his green staff on their excellent presentation of the course.

The White Horse Cup team had already qualified for next weekend’s semi-final at The Grange against the Highlands and are looking forward to that challenge.

Congratulations to all our men’s pennant teams for the great season to date. Here’s hoping at least one team can take that extra step.
